The Tauck Tours and Iceland cruise finished around 2:00p at Keflavik Airport, too late for Marine Steve and I to connect onwards to Munich on the same day and we had two choices: Stay at a hotel in Reykjavik overnight, or pick one of several places near the airport. Bed and Breakfast Keflavik Airport Hotel had the most reasonable rates, and staying here would avoid a roundtrip transportation cost into town. I couldn’t decide whether to call it a “B&B” or “Hotel” … Whatever, this little hotel is located in the former US Naval Air Station. The United States had a military presence in Iceland from 1941 until 2004 and the base acted as a platform for several operational capabilities throughout World War II, the Cold War and in modern times.

The former Naval base is only five minutes from the airport, and Bed and Breakfast Keflavik Airport Hotel provides free 24-hour shuttle service and a large breakfast buffet which begins at 4:30a and is included in its rates. Perfect! Dropped at Keflavik International Airport with guests who were flying onwards, a Tauck Tour representative telephoned the B&B for us and they arrived 10 minutes later.
The spacious rooms at the Bed and Breakfast Keflavik Airport are basic but comfortable with television, free Wi-Fi, and ensuite bathroom. Hotel had a pool table, computer for guest’s use and a library with many paperback books left behind. Reception also had information about several places that deliver food. I think it is referred to as “basic” only because there are no telephones in rooms. That made me a little nervous with a very early morning Icelandair flight to Munich and we went to sleep praying that alarm went off in time to eat a little breakfast. (Icelandair only serves onboard food for purchase.)
A really nice place to stay if you have an early morning flight from Keflavik International Airport. Rooms are large and bright, they serve a large buffet breakfast and transfer guests in a timely fashion.
