Have you ever heard the old saying, “There’s no such thing as a free lunch?” That certainly applies to Icelandair as well as other airlines when sitting in Economy; charges for food, alcoholic beverages and bring your own headset to watch free movies! Before you know it, passengers will be expected to bring their own toilet paper…

Watch the video below about the Icelandair Boeing 757-200 flight to Munich Airport. Off the plane in Munich, there was no Immigration because the flight was in the Schengen Zone. Under the Schengen agreement, transiting from one country to another within the Schengen area is done without border controls. If you are also entering within the Schengen area, walk from baggage claim and follow big “S” signs leading to the “S-Bahn” which goes into central Munich.

Since we had already purchased return train tickets from Munich Airport to Landeck-Zams, it wasn’t necessary to buy another “S-Bahn” ticket. Ostbhanhof – East Munich train station is closer to Munich Airport and our train would stop here making it unnecessary to ride into central Hauptbahnhof (main Munich Train Station). It takes approximately 30 minutes from the airport and we changed platforms to wait for the first of two trains.

Train #1 was a 1-1/2 hour ride to Innsbruck where Train #2 would depart. The Innsbruck Train Station was very confusing. Platform monitors showed the train’s ultimate destination was Zurich and Landeck wasn’t listed as one of the stops before! We finally found an OBB agent (Austrian Federal Rail) who confirmed this was the correct train, jumped on and found seats for the last 45 minute ride to Landeck. Whew… At least this train was new and showed upcoming stops in each car as well as train speed.

Instead of waiting 35 minutes for the next scheduled Post Bus 4240 to Ischgl which would take another 1:05, we took a taxi; exhausted after rising at 4:00a in Reykjavik, flying to Munich spending the rest of the day on trains and worth every one of the 60 Euro which only took 30 minutes.

Welcome to Ischgl!
