I selected the Holiday Inn Express Shenzhen Luohu for its rock bottom prices (around $60 US a night including breakfast) and because this hotel chain is always good value for the money. It didn’t hurt that the hotel was only 3.5 kilometers/2 miles away from Luohu Commercial City, Shenzhen’s gigantic shopping mall next to the Shenzhen Train Station; Dongmen district; MixC Shopping Mall, one of the biggest in China; and Huaqiangbei, the place to shop for the latest in computer and electronic gadgetry
This nice hotel offered complimentary Wi-Fi in guest rooms and throughout the hotel, comfy rooms, and served a nice buffet breakfast buffet; a perfect place to spend two nights. There was also a KFC and McDonald’s near the hotel and after eating Chinese for two weeks, we were ready for a little American fast-food. In both places, we were the only foreigners. By the way, two Big Macs cost 37 Yuan ($6 USD), less than at home.
Shenzhen is a place that exists for shoppers and has border train, bus and ferry connections to Hong Kong. There are ferries from Tsim Sha Tsui Central (also known as HongKong/Macau Ferry Port) and Hong Kong Airport Airport, Macau and Zhuhai. Hong Kong locals shuttle back and forth across the border to buy goods cheaper than can be bought in Hong Kong; just one reason why Shenzhen is s one of the most populous and richest cities in China. I read an article that stated, Hong Kong shoppers have spent the equivalent of $3.9 USD billion shopping in Shenzhen! Who can argue with those statistics and that is why we were here, to shop.
The Shenzhen International Airport is 38 kilometers/23 miles from the hotel and we would fly from Shenzhen back to Beijing after we shop ‘til we drop. So…let’s go shopping…
